Be daring with your colour palette

Pink is an obvious choice for a Princess party and understandably so. We love combining shades of pink with gold for a very special look. However, Princesses come in all colours of the rainbow! Be daring and experiment with colour to reinvent this popular theme. Baby blue, pastel pink, lavender, purple, metallic (gold/ silver/ copper) light mint green and a soft yellow can be mixed and matched in an infinite number of ways.

You can NEVER have too much sparkle!

This rule can be applied to life as much as it can your Princess party! Gold and silver glitter, chunky glitter, sparkles and sequins all look at home at a Princess themed party. We love using gold sequinned tablecloths for our treat tables and gold sequinned runners over a pastel pink linen cloth for our dining tables. You can also hire gold and silver sequin backdrops, which look beautiful as a photograph opportunity, or behind your cake or treat table. Even finishing your Princess table dressing with some scattered gold sequins can add a touch of splendour to your Princess themed event.

Modern Princesses are strong women!

You only have to watch the latest Disney Pixar movies to know that contemporary Princesses are evolving to reflect modern society. Elsa in ‘Frozen’ does not need a love interest to become Queen and Moana has no love interest at all, which is very refreshing. Compare this to classic Disney Princesses such as Snow White, Belle and Sleeping Beauty, who not only have ‘beautiful’ names but whose success is directly linked to their marrying a Prince and the contrast is clear. Ensure that your Princess entertainment and games plans reflect strong modern women and you will build a far more successful Princess party. Children thrive on using their imaginations, so capture them with a diverse range of high-energy activities. We love playing Princess statues, where when the music stops, the children strike a range of different poses. Princess limbo and Princess magic blanket, where the children use their imaginations to visit any land of their choosing are also popular

Remember the little Prince’s too

Many Princess themed parties will involve both male and female guests, ensure that you plan gender neutral entertainment. This links to point 3 and you can easily achieve this through delivering a variety of activities which challenge the children physically and mentally. It is wise to include some running around games, particularly at the beginning of the party and after lunch, when energy is high!

Adapt traditional games to keep the children entertained, such as:  Prince, Prince, Frog (like duck, duck, goose). Pass the Royal Parcel (it is best to ensure that everyone gets a prize). Queen’s Footsteps (like Grandma’s footsteps). When choosing your party playlist, opt for upbeat music with age-appropriate lyrics and content. Albums such as High School Musical, Camp Rock and My Little Pony all have great party records perfect for children aged 6 years and under.

Continuity is key

When planning your Princess party, ensure that the theme is apparent in every party element. The food, games, table styling, balloons and party bags should all reflect the theme. Immerse the children in a Princess world, it will add to the theatre of the day and make the event even more memorable. Try cutting party sandwiches into crown shapes, choose reusable party bags so that the children can remember the party long after it is finished (we sell reusable cotton Princess themed party bags in our shop). Don’t forget to dress up to really get into the party spirit!
